Makeup Looks

Welcome to the home of my self-taught makeup artistry. Every stroke of color, every blend of shadow, and every daring concept reflects my passion for editorial and creative makeup. These compositions are not just about cosmetics; they are a testament to the limitless possibilities of self-expression through makeup artistry. Dive into this visual journey, where my face becomes the living canvas for an exploration of unconventional beauty and artistic flair.

Black Widow

Water activated eyeliner and eyeshadow were used to create the illusion of a real black widow spider crawling up the side of my face. Water activated eyeliners are opaque, blendable, and easy to work with, as they work similarly to regular paint, so they were the main medium of choice. Eyeshadow came into play when I needed to create the shadow, as it naturally has a softer look with a blurred edge.

Pride Glitter Tears

This makeup look was done for Toronto's Pride Parade, as I joined Sephora in their first time being a part of the parade. I wanted to create a look that I felt emodied the spirit of Pride - loud, eccentric, and fun, but also emotional. Thinking about queer history, the progress that has been made, and the community that exists today evokes strong feelings of both joy and sadness, and people cry from both happiness and sadness. The colours represent the rainbow flag and the glitter makes the look especially whimsical, over-the-top, and fun, which is very much the energy that the celebration exudes.

Black Eye

For this look, I wanted it to look as if I'd been punched in the eye. My goal was to make it realistic enough to convince people that it was an actual injury. I made the left eye the bruised one, since if I was punched, it would most likely be by a right-handed individual, who would most likely use their right fist and hit that side of my face.

I studied multiple reference images to get an understanding of the colouration of the skin when brusing occurs. Using greens and yellows around the edges, adding darker splotches, extending the bruising onto my browbone and nose, and feeling out the natural contours of my eye area all helped in achieving realism. Eyeshadow was my medium of choice for creating the fake brusing, as it offers a lot of control when it comes to building up and layering colours, all while having a blended, soft edge.

Ink Dragon

Taking inspiration from Chinese brushed ink paintings, I used water-activated eyeliner to paint a dragon sprawling over the side of my face. The painting is purposely a little bit messy, with lose strokes and splattering, as I wanted to mimic the look of an actual ink painting.

I paired the dragon with a simple, but bold black eyeliner look and a red lip, as I wanted the overall look to be bold to match the ideas that are often associated with dragons - strength, power, and so on.
